Why Should You Have A Humidifier?

Humidifiers

Humidifiers are one of the most useful electrical appliances especially in places where there is too much of dry air. Dry air inside your home can cause many problems like:

  1. Health problems: Dry skin, sore throat, cracked lips, itchy eyes, and sinus headaches
  2. Other problems: cracking of walls, damages to wooden furniture and artifacts, paintings and window panes

Humidifiers help in fighting this problem by distributing humidified air in the form of vapor.

Types of humidifier

There are different types of humidifier and what you buy depends on your requirements, budget, and the region (cold regions, hot region, dry air region etc). There are mainly two types of humidifiers, warm and cool. Let's take a look at each one of them:

Warm Humidifiers

Cool Humidifiers

Warm air humidifiers are integrated with a heating element that can heat water. But this also means that it will use more electricity. The air within your home can become muggy if it is overused.

Cool air humidifiers are considered to be extremely safe and use less electricity They can also humidify larger areas and their only disadvantage is that they make a lot of noise.

Steam

In this, the water gets boiled and is circulated in the room in the form of steam.

Advantage: Boiled water kills bacteria and mold. Budget or cheap price

Disadvantage: unsafe where children's are concerned - risk of burns.

Evaporation Wick

These humidifiers use a wick or even filter for water absorption, which is then evaporated by a fan.

Advantage: It uses a natural form of evaporation. So when the humidity in the air in your home increases, the rate of evaporation will slow down, and this makes them automated or self regulating.

Disadvantage: Noise

Warm Mist

These humidifiers are similar to the steam humidifiers as it uses water, which evaporates to create steam.

Disadvantage: unsafe where children's are concerned - risk of burns.

Impeller

The impeller humidifiers have a spinning disk that can create mist.

Advantage: The process is a lot quieter than a process where a fan is used.

Ultrasonic

The Ultrasonic humidifiers have been created with modern designs and they use ultrasonic sound waves that make the water vibrate to create mist.

Advantage: very efficient and zero noise.

Note: Humidifiers need regular cleaning and maintenance to give optimum performance. If you are unable to clean your humidifier then this might buildup mildew, mold, bacteria and fungus, which is harmful for health. You should try and change the water on a daily basis. The water pads should also be changed once in a month or six months depending on the model used.
